From Your Commander

Dear friends,

This is a short note to bring you up to date on the reconstruction of our American Legion Post 123.

As you know, we have faced a few challenges, some obvious and many surprises. We have worked very hard to resolve issues as they come up, all within our means and limitations. We have received incredible support and commitment from members, friends, the community, and other Legions both near and far. We are grateful for the solidarity and support in the various forms it has presented itself – financial, volunteer time, equipment, and material donations. It is all appreciated and needed.

This is where we are as of now:

  • The new roof on the Tiki Hut is halfway complete. The main building roof remains unchanged.
  • We will open the Tiki Hut August 5th and 6th., after which we will reevaluate the possibility of opening a few days per week. Thank you, Auxiliaries, for you unending support!
  • Thank you to our Auxiliaries who have agreed to take over the memorial bricks project.
  • We continue to meet with various experts for advice as we plan the reconstruction.
  • Electrical works
  • We are pursuing funding sources and will provide an update on the results.
  • A wish list of items which will be needed when the main building’s kitchen is complete will soon be posted on our Website.

I encourage all to renew your membership. Also, visit our Website and Facebook page for updates.

I invite you to visit our web site (https://www.sanibelcaptivaflpost123.org/about-american-legion) through which you can keep informed on our progress, contact us, and make contributions. Our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AmericanLegionPost123/ ) is another good source of information. For written communications I ask you ensure we have your current address, phone number and email address.

It is an honor to serve as Commander and lead the rebuilding effort. I am grateful to all who to date have supported this monumental enterprise. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you as we rebuild and continue to meet our mission and goals.

Sincerely,

John Hird

Commander
